A recent blog post on HawaiiLiving.com explains Bill 89. The post calls out Waikiki Lanais:
“Contrary to popular misinformation, no short-term rentals are allowed at the Waikiki Skytower and Waikiki Lanais. Yet a whopping one-third of Waikiki Lanais condos have been short-term rentals for years. Ignorance could get you in trouble. Be in the know.”“Bill 89 – Ordinance 19-18 – Hawaii’s New Short-Term Vacation Rental Regulations,” HawaiiLiving.com blog, June 28, 2019
Listen up, scofflaws. It’s time to obey the law.
We stand ready to report every violation on August 1st. Fines are $1000-$10,000 per day, so get legal or get out your checkbooks.
If you do want to run a legal STR in Waikiki, HawaiiLiving.com says that the many buildings where STRs are legal will be a tremendous investment and they will be happy to educate you about STR regulations and help you purchase legally permitted STR units. We’re sure they will also be happy to help you sell your illegal Waikiki Lanais STR, and the sooner the better.
