The new, STR-friendly Board of Directors has removed all documentation about STRs from the official Waikiki Lanais website and from postings in the building’s common areas. This website is now the only source of information to owners about STRs at Waikiki Lanais.
Letters from the Department of Planning and Permitting
At the June 6, 2019 Board meeting, the STR-friendly Board voted down a motion to send copies of the letters from the Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) to owners. We believe owners deserve to see these letters:
As of June 7, 2019, the elevator and bulletin board postings about how to contact the DPP to report STRs have been removed. To report active STRs, send email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call them at 808-768-8000. You may also tell the Resident Manager, however a Board member has said that the Resident Manager “has better things to do” than check on STRs, so this may not be effective.
Owners’ Letter to the Board of Directors
On August 28, 2019, a letter was sent to the Board of Directors objecting to the use of common maintenance fees to allow the AOAO attorney to challenge the city’s Ordinance 19-18 and to establish a front desk for vacation renters. The letter demands mediation and reimbursement of any fees already expended. The letter was signed by owners of 40 units. Any additional owners who wish to lend support should email email@example.com.
